Whew! Summer is so fleeting! Is it all going by wayyyyyy too fast for anyone else? Good lord, I feel like I need a whole herd of mini-me’s! Continue reading “Summer Is Fleeting! & The Traveling Image Podcast”
In this Postcard From France, I’m writing about yet another amazing person and bff I met that I want to introduce you to!
Her name is Catherine Just. Continue reading “Postcards From France: Catherine Just”
This Postcard From France introduces you to my new BFF, who lives in Cannes. Her name is Lieke Kay. Continue reading “Postcards From France: Meet Lieke Kay”
Postcard #1 From Cannes
This Postcard From France arrives by way of Cannes, home of the Cannes Film Festival. Which – get this – started the day of my very first visit! There were multiple visits… this was only the first. I’ll share the others with you too, of course. They’ll make you laugh! Continue reading “Postcards From France: Cannes”
What heck is a photo retreat?
Ahhhh… and well might you ask. I think of it kind of like the hybrid baby of a photography workshop and a spiritual retreat. Continue reading “Postcards From France: The Artist’s Voice Photo Retreat at Julia Child’s House”
My Postcard From Grasse – Part 1
This Postcard from France comes to you from Grasse. After chilly but beautiful Strasbourg up in northern France, a 5-day road trip dropped me much further south into Grasse, which is in the French Riviera, or Cotes d’Azur. It was close to Chateauneuf de Grasse, which is where I’d be leading my “Finding Your Artistic Voice” photography retreat a few days later. Continue reading “Postcards From France: Grasse, Part 1”
Well, I made it! Postcards from Germany officially begins! I switch gears from staying in one place and walking everywhere (in Rome) to planes, trains and automobiles in Germany. The climate’s different too… it’s chillier here, so it’s layer up time. Continue reading “Postcards From Germany: Munich”
I bet you wondered if I’d EVER spill what the heck has been going on behind-the-scenes over here!
I’m getting ready to embark upon a project that I believe in with all my heart and soul. It’s taken a ton of preparation (in some ways, my whole life!). At its core, it’s a story. A soul’s journey. And it’s all about finding our voice and embracing life itself as if it were our art. I believe this is what we were all meant to do. I believe it’s our birthright to do so. But it’s not alway so easy to pull off on Planet Earth, is it? Believe me, I know. Continue reading “Postcards From Rome”
Spring’s on its way (even though we’ll likely get lots more snow.). Normally that has me giddy all by itself. This year, there are 4 NEW reasons I’m stoked as it rolls around!
I’m getting ready to travel again – for 2 months! I can’t wait! I’m in that “OMG, I’ve got so much to do before I leave!” mode and I don’t head out for a couple of weeks yet. Hey, it’s never too early to obssess a little… especially with so many cool things on tap. Here’s the quick rundown…
1. The Artist’s Voice Retreat
You know about about my photography retreat in Provence at Julia Child’s house, mais oui? So excited about it! The Artist’s Voice… May 5-8, 2016. As of today, there are only 2 spots left. Click here to learn more about it. If, after that, you think “HAIL YES I wanna go!!” and wonder if it would be a fit for you… well honey, just Contact Me for more information!
Ladies, can we travel-chat for a minute?
Gentlemen; you’re welcome to hang out too, but if underwear and lady things make you blush… well, consider yourself forewarned!
I love to travel (don’t we all?). But I HATE to be more uncomfortable than necessary. Admit it, so do you!
I’m betting I’m also not alone in having a few physical issues that can ruin my day if I don’t take a few simple precautions. My mother was a Girl Scout leader… I’m an ex-horse trainer… which means this vital lesson is in ingrained my cells: BE PREPARED!!
For my recent month-long trip to France, I knew I needed to relearn what I had learned, as Yoda might say. So, I spent HOURS before my recent month-long trip to France looking through Smarter Travel dot com’s website for the best solutions I could find (I subscribe to their newsletter – it’s genius!). I watched videos on packing. I revamped my luggage configuration completely. I obsessed for weeks. And I never got tired of checking out how other people succeed at travel.
A World of Panorama
“Panorama” is defined as: “an unbroken view of the whole region surrounding an observer.”
I like this notion. It feels good, generally.
And I’ve always liked panorama photographs. I think alot of us do.
I’ve always heard what a pain in the ass it was to make them though… and how time consuming. It made me shy to try for a really long time.
Well, I’m amending my previous stance because I’m starting to fall in love with the mighty panorama. Making them, I mean.
I’ve been dabbling. First with my iPhone, which I’ve been doing for years. My iPhone 6+ kind of kicked that into new realms… with images like this from France, for example:
What Was Your Favorite Part?
People have been asking me what my favorite moment was in France. I just can’t answer that! Honestly, there were so many “favorite moments”; all leading up to some major “aha’s” in my life. (They’re going to take some time to internalize, too.) It’s like the entire trip as a whole was my favorite moment! Plus, the month happened in chapters, each unique and amazing. For instance…
One really super cool thing was traveling about the countryside toward the end of our trip. I LOVED that. That’s the ‘real’ France. Major cities like Paris are awesome. Not-to-be-missed. But if you want to meet the real people, you have to get out into the heartlands. In this case, though – it’s HOW all that happened that was so cool… Continue reading “Fans and Friends in France”
Walking around the streets of Paris is an open invitation for the inner muse to have her way. She will insist. She will hum, giggle at odd times, make you stop… and make you see things in unusual ways.
Even common (well, common to locals, I suppose) neighborhood scenes will inspire the muse to gasp, stop and instantly re-imagine what you have laid your tender eyes upon.
And this, my friends, is why I treasure my muse so much. When I’m out of ideas in life, for the next move, the next meal, the next idea, the next… whatever… I can always count on my muse to throw something awesome my way. Continue reading “On Being A-Mused in Paris (or really anywhere)”
I’m posting this right as I’m ready to run out for the final day of Valerie Jardin’s Paris Photography Workshop, during which I’ve been her guest. She’s a good friend and this whole idea just sounded like fun. I wanted to revisit Paris in the springtime, having only been here at Christmas once… and what better way to see the city than with a native?
This is the first of 3 weeks here in Paris; each completely different. Except for the part where I have a camera Velcroed to me at all times. 😀
Today I mostly just want to share some photos… and some thoughts. 12 of them, to be exact. 12 is completeness and spiritual perfection; which just about perfectly describes this entire week!
At The Heart Of It
I was invited to enter a contest for travel/photo-bloggers.
I know, RIGHT? But it’s sponsored by Thomas Cook – an awesome outfit – and it’s called “Explore the Elements”. As they put it…”It’s all about capturing and expressing the four elements through travel photography…” so I thought “What the heck?” And here we are.
So, OK, I love to travel. But to be honest: I don’t actually want to go EVERYwhere. I only love to go where my heart wants to go. Sometimes my head and heart have different ideas about that.

Locks Off, Let’s Roll!
OK, that’s literally the title of this photo: “Let’s go!”. Bicycle waiting, no locks, no limitations… just ready and waiting to get rolling!
I can relate to this, oh yes I can!
This is a rework of an older photo, taken a couple of years ago in Lucca, Italy. I admit it; I got just a WEE bit obsessed with these Italian-bikes-leaning-on-walls. Looked for them at every turn. Made my poor hubs stop while I snapped each and every one!
It’s possible that you’ll see this on a garment soon. Possible, I say. It was one of the images short-listed over at VIDA, where I’m one of the new designers for Spring. I have a meeting coming up. There COULD be samples involved. Ssshhh! our secret. ;))
Saying that I’m excited is a vast understatement.
But saying that I’m locks-off ready to roll SO is not!
How about you?
Who’s got cool stuff going on? Tell us! Tell us!!
That Technicolor Time of Year
Earlier this autumn, the hubs and I took a week and bombed down to the Eastern Sierras. Mind you, we didn’t just randomly decide to pack up and go blasting off all willy-nilly, when it was convenient for us. My goodness no! Nature has the upper hand in this scenario. YOU wait for HER! You have to watch from afar… kind of like when you stalk something you REALLY want on eBay, then sign up for the “Watch list” so you know when it’s getting to be time to leap. But hey.. no bidding until the last second! God forbid you start a bidding war!
But I digress… how unusual. heh.
Your life is not your own during this time. You refresh websites like California Fall Color over ‘n over for news that the colors are ready to peak in the places you want to go. You research, snoop, wait, compare… and when conditions are juuuuuuust right.. BAM! You throw your gear in the car and bomb down U.S. Route 395 t’git summa that!
Moments like this one in McGee Canyon (and about a million other brilliantly colored ones) are the reward. It’s awwwwwesome.
Got anything you wait, plan, scheme and get super excited about? Tell me, tell me!
5 Day Deal Was a Success!!
Well, THAT was a fun event! The 5 Day Deal was very, very successful! Over $160k raised for charity (I should know exactly how much in the next couple of days), thousands of happy customers… and even the servers will be happy, now that it’s over. Heh. I hear they went down a couple of times with the unexpected levels of demand. And they were beefed up from last time! Love that. Many thanks to those of you who used my code to purchase that incredible bundle of goodness… I hope you find new inspiration this winter as you work your way through all the tutorials, ebooks, presets, textures, discounts, etc! It was exciting to bring it all your way.
And now… moving on to new stuff… New York is up next, then a few days in Colorado, San Diego… then home, where I hope to stay for the holidays and rest of the year.
New website should be up in a month or less – launching a whole new KHutt era! My mind is reeling at the possibilities… frankly, some downtime will be in order just to get my brain re-organized for it all!
Before I fly tomorrow, I’m going back to a moment overlooking the hoodoos at Bryce Canyon, Utah last year… when the wonder, ancient-ness and peace of it all just washed over and filled me up with strength, beauty, inspired ideas and love. I’m going to carry that forward on behalf of all of us!
What Renews YOU?
Got a favorite place to renew? I’d love to hear it! Might take some notes, too… 😉
On the PhotoTraces.com blog today, I was featured in an article called “Top Travel Photographers Reveal Their Favorite Photo Locations Around The World – Part 2”.
I’ll admit it… I read every single one of the other photographer’s favorite spots and even made some notes!
My said my fave place (so far) is New Zealand. Dear lord, how could it NOT be?? I loved it so much I couldn’t take it off my bucket list, even after I’d been there! No, it stays pinned to the top of the list. I mean, when you can just pull your car over (then stand in the middle of the road) and photograph Mt. Cook in all his/her glory… honey, I’m sold! It would take a lifetime to find all the awesome nooks and crannies to photograph there. I can’t wait to go back!
It IS, after all, still on my bucket list. Did I mention that? Heh.
What’s on yours?
