Epiphanies & Sunsets
Maya Angelou once described an epiphany as “… the occurrence when the mind, the body and the soul focus together and see an old thing in a new way.” That struck me when I read it, because that’s also a pretty good description of how sunsets make me feel. I don’t think I’m alone in this.
To me, a great sunset is like a portal opening to the Divine. Perceptions shift, the air color changes, everything is transformed in a most magical way. My own heart opens, my breath deepens and a different kind of idea will occur to me: a better one, a more fulfilling one. It’s an Inspired moment, for absolute suresville.
One of the books I’m reading right now is: “Epiphany: True Stories of Sudden Insight to Inspire, Encourage, and Transform” by Elise Ballard. I think when you’re reaching for something new, trying to create a shift in your universe; it’s good to read, hear, think about what others have done to create a similar kind of shift for themselves. Even if there isn’t NEW information, perse, chances are you’ll hear it in a different way. It might validate something you knew and now feel encouraged to put more energy into, might encourage you to think or act upon something you were hesitating on, or introduce you outright to an idea that might just change your life.
Thoughts
Thoughts are a powerful tool. I think it’s critical to shape our thinking so that at least MOST of our thoughts are the kind that will help create the project, job, career, life our hearts desire. Because when our minds are flowing in that direction… when our thoughts generate the images and excitement we need to move our most cherished direction… our generative motors start running OUR way. Heck, they ALWAYS run… why not have them charging down the road of our heart’s richest choosing?
Part of my creative flow is to think lovingly about how I want to feel, what I want to create, the life I want to live… then I’ll put some action to them by creating a new episode of “The Chat” or work on my next talk… then I like to visit a good sunset. Because there, I can hear the voice of the Divine speaking in the brushstrokes in the sky, in the colored hues that it spreads everywhere and the warm embrace of feelings that can only come from the true Source of my imagination.
I think that’s why people love them – and photographs of them. Not that everyone thinks of it just the way I do… but we all feel the amazingness of a sunset, even if we can’t put our finger on why. I say.. just enjoy and let it fill you up.
I’m going to go think some more sunsetty thoughts now… how ’bout you?
